I'd estimate that 80% of the crowd was there to see Iron Butterfly, and they were hostile from the get go, booing and yelling "get off the stage" type shit. After a rousing Lovelight failed to calm them at all, they began this, an over an hour long (minus the cuts and tape flips) onslaught. By the end of We Bid You Goodnight there was no more open hostility. I stuck around for Iron Butterfly, because I had liked their first two albums (still do like quite a few tunes) and wanted to hear them. They played their set well, but by the time the Hall emptied, it was clear that more Dead Heads had walked out, than had walked in.

I love hearing about the early days of the Dead. Great story Edsel.
